The current building for Holy Trinity Buildwas dates from 1720 and replaced a medieval church. It was therefore our tricentenary (300th anniversary) in 2020 and we had lots of celebration and fundraising events planned, including bug hunting and flora & fauna talks and hunts in the churchyard (come and help find our slow-worms!); and our usual fundraising events such as our ever-popular jumble sales and the Buildwas Summer Fete competitions! Unfortunately, most of these had to be cancelled due to COVID19. See the 'Events' section of this website for details of any upcoming events.
A big thanks to everyone who has donated so far and helped out and / or attended one of our fundraising events! We have spent some of the money raised on some of the less expensive but urgent items e.g. the cutting of the yew trees lining the path leading to the church entrance; a new aisle carpet; and we've had the paths in the churchyard temporarily re-laid to allow better access for wheelchair and pushchair users, though they still require replacement.
If you're unable to visit our church in person, you can try our virtual tour of our church and churchyard on the GeoTourist website - simply click on the 'Explore At Home' button! Buildwas Holy Trinity Church & Churchyard — Geotourist
We are working in partnership with Caring for God's Acre to produce a wildflower meadow in our churchyard (as we have a number of rare butterfly and flower species, and also slow-worms, which are a protected species). This will allow us to preserve the habitat for these rare species as well as providing a space in the village for local residents and visitors to walk and sit in quiet reflection.
However, our fundraising can't stop! As we need funds in order to apply for grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), National Churches Trust (NCT) and Shropshire Historic Churches Trust (SHCT), amongst others, because most grant providers don’t provide 100% funding – they either give matched funding or fund part of a project. So, we have to have ‘money in the bank’ when applying for grants so we can pay for part of the work ourselves.

Any donations can be given with Gift Aid, which is an Income Tax Relief for UK tax payers. It enables our charity to claim back 25p for every £1 you donate. There is no extra cost to you. Complete a Gift Aid declaration (available in the church pews for cash donations) or say YES to the Gift Aid question when donating online. That’s all there is to it!
