We have already done some research!! Did you know for instance.....

  • Buildwas Church was once part of Buildwas Abbey?
  • Some of the families buried in Buildwas Church have close connections with Abraham Darby of Coalbrookdale?
  • For a short time, Buildwas Church was the ‘Gretna Green’ of Shropshire because young couples could easily get married there?
  • That we have some rare cast iron headstones?
  • That many of the people buried in our churchyard in the 17th century had to be buried in woollen clothing due to an Act of Parliament?
  • We have a Commonwealth War Grave of a soldier from the 1st World War and that Buildwas Academy pupils have been researching his life?
  • That in 1917, one of the mourners died during a funeral service?

We are finding out more fascinating facts all the time!
